About the piece
When tragedy strikes, how do we, as musicians, use our art to move forward? Prayer for Healing grapples with this question. The first half is a lament: alternating between hollow grief and frail hope, then contemplating with strong, mixed emotions the life that might have been, but ultimately coming to a climax in an overwhelming wave of sorrow. Out of this, however, the second half emerges: a hymn, a prayer for healing, as we begin to see the possibility of goodness on the horizon. Moments of peace and even joy emerge as we are strengthened by memories of the loved one, and resolve to live fully with the time that is given us.
For the inspiration for this music, and for any healing that it may bring to its performers and audiences, I give all glory to God.
